  • Milan, node in a global network

  •

In 2005 the Association set up the project “Milan, node in a global network”, at the proposal of the Milan Chamber of Commerce and with scientific advice from a workgroup co-ordinated by Professor Mauro Magatti, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore.

The project provided the academic community and Milanese institutions with an update on how glocalisation is changing the Milan system, and the Chamber of Commerce with a road-map of proposed projects to meet and respond to the challenges facing the Milan “node” today.

    Milano Nodo

What the project has brought to light is that current analysis of Milan networks and involved areas needs more feed-back from its actors, as well as empirical surveys and new statistical projections.

As illustrated in Piero Bassetti’s foreword to “Milano, nodo della rete globale” (ed. Bruno Mondadori, 2005), “our feedback on Milan is archaic, pre-glocal, not abreast of current processes of space-redeployment; as such it clearly cannot support effective decision-making or planning processes. The information on and image of the city as circulated proves inadequate and this leads the institutions and decision-takers into equally inadequate strategies and policies.”

While work on this front has involved tackling certain crucial facets of the subject, it has also raised a series of cognitive demands which have been developed in “Global Milan and its gateways”.
